ALLOY & ALUMINUM WHEEL STRAIGHTENING

CRACK WELDING REPAIR

CURB DAMAGE REPAIR & REFINISHING

Curbs, potholes & other road hazards can bend the inner and outer rim flanges.
This damage causes dangerous tire pressure loss as well as excessive vibration.

We specialize in straightening & crack welding repair on alloy & aluminum wheels.
Using state of the art equipment along with heat & hydraulic technology, damaged
wheels up to thirty inches in diameter can be straightened back to the original
lateral and radial specifications.

Curb damage repair & refinishing to O.E.M. specifications on painted and machined finish wheels.

Re-manufactured O.E.M. and factory replacement wheels to replace damaged non-repairable wheels
.

The wheel is heated with dual torches. Heat softens the alloy, keeping the wheel from cracking
during the straightening process. Heat also loosens what is referred to as the “Chrystalline
Structure” of the alloy. Without loosening this structure and allowing it to “heal” as it cools, the
metal will retain a “memory” of where it has been bent. This process resets this memory and
restrengthens the internal structure, or “temper” of the alloy. Once the wheel is heated properly,
the bend can be straightened using the hydraulic ram with various bending tools.

Aluminum alloy wheels have a tendency to crack when they hit a deep pothole or raised manhole
cover. Cracks are extremely dangerous and can let the air out of the tire very quickly and without
warning. The wheel needs to be straightened before welding. An impact that has cracked a wheel
will also bend the rear bead flange of the rim. Aluminum alloy wheels must be welded with a process
called TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding. We have many years of experience TIG welding aluminum
alloy wheels. Once the crack is welded, the wheel goes back on the straightener. The lateral and radial run out is checked and straightened if needed. If the wheel arrived with a tire and we had dismounted it, the tire will be remounted on the wheel.

CURB DAMAGE REPAIR & REFINISHING

CURB DAMAGE REPAIR PROCESS ON PAINTED & MACHINED
FINISH ALUMINUM ALLOY WHEELS

PAINTED FINISH WHEELS

(1) The painted finish on the wheel is chemically stripped down to the raw aluminum.

(2) Gouges on the front face of the rim are TIG welded and machined to match the original surface.

(3) Wheel is spray painted with the factory matching color.

MACHINED FINISH WHEELS

(4) Wheel is mounted on a CNC machine and the computer programmed lathe removes paint from
machined surfaces on the face of the wheel.

(5) Wheel is powder coated with a clear coating that protects the painted and machined surfaces.
